The critical aerodynamic test facilities built by L&T include:
Hypersonic Wind Tunnel
We have designed, developed and commissioned a one-meter Hypersonic Wind Tunnel, at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre - one of the largest in the world.
The mach number ranges from 6 to 12 mach with a runtime of 40 seconds. The number of blowdowns is over 1000.
Hypersonic Shock Tunnel
As part of the Hypersonic Wind Tunnel Project, a one-meter Shock Tunnel was set up by L&T at VSSC. It simulates High Enthalpy and Mach Number environment that an orbiter would experience during re-entry phase.
A salient feature of this project is the development of large speciality forgings fabricated for shock tunnels.
Engine Test facility
This is a high altitude test facility for liquid propulsion engines, supersonic and hypersonic aero-engines.
Thirty Meter Telescope
The TMT is being built under an international partnership between India, Canada, China, Japan and institutes from the USA - it is one of the most advanced large telescopes in the world.
L&T is the sole supplier of the “segment support assembly” required to hold and actuate the reflecting mirrors precisely.
